Check Your Focus #209

Have you ever heard the phrase “what you focus on expands?”

During a recent meeting, one of the leaders attending said they had been in a “funk.” Well, we all could relate to that statement. The conversation began and seemed to accelerate into all the things contributing to their challenges. It wasn’t helpful, in fact, it seemed to be more therapeutic for the other leaders to pile onto why the funk was legitimized and justified.

A simple question turned the situation around. I interrupted the frenzy of funkiness by asking “what are you focusing on?”

The room went quiet.

At all times in our lives, no matter how disrupted or challenging, great things are occurring. When we don’t see or feel them with the same intensity as the challenges, we get funky, or pessimistic or crabby.

You can justify any experience you’d like. Thoughts become feelings when we focus on them. If you’re not feeling what you’d like, it’s time to refocus your magnifying glass.

Is it time to check your focus?
