It’s Fluid, Not Permanent #214

Is it really failure when things don’t work? Often, we look at the lack of results as a failure, but perhaps it’s something more.

I am a learner; I often refer to myself as a lifelong learner. I value reading, learning organically and in workshops, from digital sources and books—really any challenge to my thinking is welcomed unless I’m overtired.

So why do I forget amidst the lack of results that it is a learning opportunity? That the lack simply points to the opportunity to be catalyzed into a better process, attempt or future result. I’ve heard it said two ways:

  1. You’re either winning or learning
  2. If you’re not learning, you’re dying

The temporary feelings of disappointment cloud my ability to reconcile the lessons at times. Consistent, incremental growth and the learning associated will triumph every time. Unless we forget and call it failure, which makes it permanent instead of fluid.
