To know is not enough. In fact, it’s the door prize.
Knowing about racism won’t change what’s happening; action, learning and repeated practice will.
My family and I watched “Just Mercy” over the weekend. We wanted to watch together while the awareness in Minnesota is still heightened and we are all tender. It proved to be an amazing movie to give perspective about systemic racism.
We shed tears, experiencing a variety of uncomfortable emotions (which is good), only to linger with the notes about the actual people represented in the movie during the closing credits. Some of those notes added salt to the open wounds.
As we wrapped up our evening with our varied sobering responses, we all realized we need to keep learning and catalyzing change every day.
We cannot let ourselves get comfortable again.
