“Staying positive doesn’t mean things will turn out okay. Rather, it is knowing YOU will be okay no matter how things turn out.”

For me, one of the ways I stay grounded is to find perspective when things are happening. Recently, I was at the gym and thought I had socks in my shoes when I didn’t. My coach looked around for some for me to buy or use and there were none. This is an insignificant thing really, however an example of how I reframe. He came back and apologized that he had none. I replied “if this is the worst thing that happens to me today, I’m doing really well” which is my standard response when things don’t go as I expected (which is often). That phrase moves me forward and let’s the many seemingly significant-in- the-moment (while actually insignificant) events of life move quickly out of my mind rather than accumulating into “it’s going to be one of those days” days.

Our minds are traps, filled with stories waiting for an opportunity. Make your story a good one.
