“Someone with half your IQ is making 10x as you because they aren’t smart enough to doubt themselves.” – Ed Latimore

“It’s not who you are that holds you back; it’s who you think you’re not.” Denis Waitley

These two quotes are present for me right now based on some conversations with our team regarding our progress and limitations regarding our work.

When I think about my own journey, early success is often a result of my enthusiasm, dogged perseverance, and excitement about what’s possible. My first year playing golf was better than the second. My goal in year one was to have fun and spend quality time with people. I wanted to learn the rules, etiquette and be good enough to keep up. I had no expectation of winning or playing competitively.

That all changed in year two. I’d gone to golf school and turned this hobby into a sport I wanted to be good at. The joy diminished, it became challenging, and the results were worse as I tried harder to fix everything.

Knowing is the booby prize.

When you’re in it for the joy of it, you learn faster, focus on the significant pieces and embrace mistakes knowing they’ll happen. If having fun is your goal, you’ll dismiss those things that don’t align with that outcome. Energy moves forward and you do well because of your focus, not your effort. It’s natural.

What we pay attention to, we become.

Mind your thoughts.
