Battling the Mental and Emotional Impacts of COVID

Roxane Battle is Vice President of Advocacy and Community at Sanvello Health, Inc, a mental health services company and subsidiary of United Health Group. She is also a former news anchor, reporter, and sought-after speaker on change, resiliency, and finding joy during times of transition. I can’t think of anyone who has more relevant expertise in this part of 2020 than Roxane. In this episode of Intentional Greatness, Roxane joins us to share her journey, talk about her self-help memoir, “Pockets of Joy,” and walk us through her process of achieving self-acceptance. In a time when loneliness is running rampant, there are resources out there to help us realize that we are truly not in this alone. Roxane’s story is one of them.

Pockets of Joy

Roxane’s self-help memoir, “Pockets of Joy,” was initially self-published in 2015. It went straight onto the bestseller list, and within a year, a publisher caught wind of her work and bought the rights. Roxane wrote nonstop to meet the 6-week deadline and adapt the book to the self-help space. In doing so, she deeply explored her own experiences with fear, anxiety, loneliness, and depression. Her candid style attracted a huge following and led to many public speaking opportunities, where she would eventually be discovered by Sanvello Health Inc. In an unconventional fashion, Sanvello brought Roxane onto the team in the height of the pandemic, and it couldn’t have been a more critical time to tap into her expertise.

Own Your Struggles

It is important to acknowledge Roxane’s journey because that is what led to her success today. Her life struggles shaped her world view and self-image, and it gave her the experience to share with others and help them navigate their own challenges. Roxane went through a divorce as a public figure, and for a while, she refused to let her shell crack under the spotlight. But eventually, she learned how to acknowledge her feelings and be honest with herself. She gained the courage to go out and seek help. She learned the power of community and positive connection. She learned the value of authenticity. And finally, she learned how to practice self-care which leads to self-acceptance. This is a process we can all benefit from learning, and Roxane’s journey can help us better understand its raw power.
